Student city

Ghent is home to over 70k students, accounting for an impressive 25% of its total population. This community contributes to Ghent's dynamic atmosphere and makes it a hub of knowledge and youthful energy.

Sustainable

Ghent is the vegetarian capital of Europe and has the largest low-traffic city centre in Europe. You will be surrounded by bikes, so be careful but don't stop walking!

Nightlife

Ghent has a vibrant nighlife with a lot of bars and clubs that stay open until 6am. So, if you are in the mood you'll discover diverse options throughout the city, but keep in mind that we expect to seeing you fresh and ready at the conference the next day.

Historic

Almost 1400 years of history are still tangible when you visit the city of Ghent. The cathedral, the belfroy and many other places are waiting for you to discover.

There are two main train stations:

Gent-Sint-Pieters

You will most likely arrive at this train station if you are coming from Brussels. To reach the city center, you can walk for about 30 minutes, take public transportation, or grab a taxi.

Gent-Dampoort

This train station is in the north of Ghent and it is closer to the city center (15 minutes on foot or 5 by bike).

If you are getting to Ghent by plane:

Brussels Airport Zaventem

You will get to the Gent-Sint-Pieters station in a 45-minute train trip. There is a train station at the airport, so just follow the signs.

Brussels South Charleroi

The easiest way to get to Ghent is to take the Flibco shuttle, which will leave you at the Gent-Sint-Pieters station.

Moving around

Ghent is a 'human-sized' city, where getting around is very easy whether you prefer strolling on foot or cycling. And if you're looking for even faster options, the bus and tram services will get you to your destination very quickly.

For reaching the city center, we highly recommend taking the T1, T2, or T4 trams from Gent-Sint-Pieters and getting off at Gent Korenmarkt (T1, T4) or Gent Vogelmarkt (T2).
